Kaumatua Hui hosted by Te Runanga o Raukawa

Te Runanga o Raukawa has been working hard in preparation of the Kaumatua Hui which was held at the Otaki Race Course on Friday December 14th. 2001. The Otaki Community board allocated some funding for the day which recognised not only the Year of our Older ones but also the Year of the Volunteer. Most would agree that all of our Kaumatua (older men and women) work very hard to support their marae and the community.

My Kaumatua from Nagti WehiWehi Marae

This picture was taken during a performance of the staff of Te Runanga o Raukawa. This photo from left to Right includes Noel (Nuki) Gardiner is my grand fathers younger brother, in the middle is Maude Ransfield who is 94 years old, and on the right is Isabelle Ransfield who resides in Otaki. Each was given a beanie from the Ngati Wehiwehi marae committee in appreciation of their contribution. They look great don't they !!

Otaki Community Board members

Both myself and Peter Hakaraia attended this function. Peter is a kaumatua from Ngati Kapumanawawhiti in Otaki and I was there representing the Otaki Community Board who was a sponsor of the day. It was really enjoyable.
